The home that we now know as Doublegate was built on Cedar
Knoll between 1919-1920 by David and Amanda Anderson.
Stephanie and I were fortunate enough to meet their son,
"Sunny Jim" Anderson, in 2007. Jim was age 93 at the time,
but still remembers vividly and fondly his childhood here.
He recounts stories of a time when traffic on Welches Rd.
included families of Indians on wagons, and the butcher
from Sandy, who would advertise his arrival every friday by
"tossing wieners to all the kids". In 1928, Billy Welch
hired Jim to help clear the pasture across the street so
they could build a golf course. Between caddying for $1 a
game, fishing the Salmon River with his sister Frances, and
sipping frozen Deleware Punch over at Billy's store, Jims
early days were truly carefree. Portions of the Anderson
family photo album from the 1920's can be seen here on our
website. For sharing his time, pictures and amazing
memories with us, our warmest thanks go out to "Sunny Jim",
who now lives in the Bay area.--------- The Stein family
left their mark in the form of a rustic stone wall that
runs along the front of our house. It was built by Scottish
hands in the 1940's, and its' double gates still swing open
to visitors today.--------- Our home was also inhabited by
the Bowman family, whose success in the community can be
seen in everything from the golf course to the Hoodland
shopping center. Through the generosity of the Bowmans,
pictures from their family album should find their way to
our website in the near future.--------- The Poston family
lived here as well, and opened their doors as a bed and
breakfast in the mid 1990's. If not for the efforts of the
Postons, there would not be a Doublegate Inn
today.--------- Eric and Stephanie Kaster are the present
owners of the Doublegate house, and proprietors of the
Doublegate Inn B&B. Along with their treasured guests,
they are looking to make history in Welches as well.
